Bagel+Slice
A few of our favorite things.
Bagel+Slice is the idea of Chef Brad Kent who knows a thing or two about pizza and bagels. He is the owner of the successful Olio Wood Fired Pizzeria in Los Angeles and partner in Blaze Pizza, (America's largest pizza chain).
To take advantage of both breakfast and lunch crowds, he decided to combine the two doughy favorites. This is the culmination of over 30-years of Brad's hands-on experience making the bagels and pizza with the highest quality ingredients.
Our brief was a spotify playlist.
As briefs go it has got be one of our all time favorites. It was a challenge as the playlist at first seemed to be far too eclectic. Late 70's UK and NYC punk next to modern west coast sounds. This however, was on purpose. Brad wanted to create a place that married his experiences growing up in New York, going to get bagels at the weekend or grabbing a slice on the go, with a more modern sunkissed life in Los Angeles.
Along with the music we took visual cues from early punk fanzines but reduced the dirty, smudged ink feel of those and replaced it with bright spikes of pink and clean white space.
It was important that the identity looked friendly and accessible to the local community it serves.

Covid added delays to the shop fit so to keep Bagel+Slice visible to the public and hide the ongoing construction we created temporary announcement posters that were placed prominently on the corner of the building.
October listened, studied and navigated the nuggets of clues provided to distill out a simple and impactful brand identity. They were clever, empathetic and talented.
