National Portrait Gallery
BP Portrait Award

The BP Portrait Awards needed a way of changing the public perception that it was an amateurish and unestablished prize. As a result, we created an identity that is authoritative, confident and contemporary.

The identity was applied to all marketing materials and advertising, exhibition environment and front of house. The year of the rebrand (2009) was the best attended BP Portrait Award in the then prize’s 31 year history. The following year attracted a record number of entries.

The identity was retained until 2019 when BP ended their sponsorship of the event.

L.A. Louver

L.A. Louver is an art gallery in Venice CA. Founded in 1975, they represent many internationally recognised artists including David Hockney, Charles Garabedian, Edward and Nancy Kienholz and Jason Martin.

The previous version of their website was outdated and buckling under the strain from a huge amount of content. We were tasked with the redesign of the site making sure that it became mobile device friendly and still able to pull information from the massive database of content previously constructed. This required a lot of detailed planning and structured layout in order to perform an aesthetic balancing act between sections of the site that were very content heavy and others that were not.

We worked closely with the gallery directors and staff to achieve a result that can last well into the future.

Museum of Childhood

The Museum of Childhood required an identity that was easily identifiable, flexible, engaging and approachable. The museum has several roles: as educator, community centre and ongoing source of inspiration for children everywhere. These factors were all taken into consideration throughout the brand development process.

The new identity was accompanied by guidelines to instruct logo application to a broad range of surfaces and printed materials.

Marine Projects

Marine started life as a contemporary art salon based in the curator’s home in Santa Monica, CA.

The name and the close proximity to the Pacific Ocean provided the inspiration of making the ‘M’ of Marine into a wave device that can be used both as a marque and illustration.

From 2011—2014, Marine expanded its programme into a dedicated gallery space on Abbot Kinney Boulevard in Venice, California. Now Marine Projects focuses on creating a tailored experience for developing, viewing and collecting contemporary works through carefully considered solo presentations, as well as the continuation of the salon programme.
